Effluent Treatment Plant Design Software

In the past, design and selection of treatment plants were based on experience. Today, with the increased cost of water and the need for higher levels of treatment, and with the availability of software tools, there is a need to rethink the process of designing and selecting these plants in order to create maximum effluent quality. This paper will discuss the process of using computer tools to design and optimize treatment plant systems and will also show how to apply the design to the full-scale plant to improve treatment system performance.

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) are high-tech plants typically located in the industrialized and developed countries that are responsible for removing waste and pollutants from municipal and industrial wastewater. Despite the high technological investment in WWTPs, regulations are made based on the guidelines published by the World Health Organization (WHO). These guidelines are the main source of guidance for the design, construction and operation of WWTPs in terms of the quality of water produced. The design of such systems is becoming increasingly difficult as the technologies required are very varied and many of them are not yet possible.

In this publication, we present the SassPro®V2 multi-configuration design tool for decentralized sanitation. The design tool is based on the AqMB software AqMB platform. The design tool is used to generate the layout of the treatment plant, the flowchart of the process, a schedule of operations, the piping design, the calculation of flows, the calculation of the quantities of the materials that are used for the design, and a set of optimized values for the process parameters. 827ec27edc
