January 30th 2017, Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn Steel and Public Assembly teamed up to bring Echosmith and their band, We Made Horses, to Brooklyn Steel for a one-night-only set. The collective feel was confirmed the moment We Made Horses introduced themselves with the distortion-heavy shriek of a space-aged rock band joining forces with heartfelt emotive floor-punch hooks. Joined by the appropriately stunned hype-poised crowd with a proggy attitude, We Made Horses lept into the second track off of their debut album, “Crash,” and it was all going to be alright. Opening with “Nothing At All,” the crowd was certainly on its feet from the moment the first notes of distortion did not fail to arrive. Luna Abril, making her debut with We Made Horses, has a heartfelt and mellifluous voice that is a perfect compliment for her guitar stylings which unfold with a bit of rhythmic dimension. It is fortunate that her vocals share some anthemic qualities with the guitars, a characteristic that would make for a perfect introduction to the audience.
Following “Not Your Favourite Things” and “Truth,” there was something to be said for the warm-hearted, almost intimate vibe of the music. You know it right away in an instant: this is the sound of a band that understands their fans and wants to play for them. Bandleader John Ondrasik loves to play; it is always evident in the way he moves, speaks and holds himself. He and Echosmith, you know, care about each other and it shows. You can tell he would play for you on a stage or in the comfort of your living room, or a joint on your back porch with a cold cider and a few of your closest friends. Echosmith’s main-man, John Ondrasik made it clear that he wanted fans to know that he has no qualms about letting their dancefloor lead them, or give them a little nudge. He is an open book and would be happy to share his music, his inspirations, and his life. He has so much to say, it seemed, and a good reason to go to his studio to share it. We Made Horses sounded hungry for what came next and Ondrasik had strong words of encouragement to bestow. d2c66b5586
